Maternity support workers

Benefits in Detail

From 1 April 2009 RCM membership became available to everyone working in a support role in the Midwifery Team.

Who can join?

The  Maternity Support Worker Membership category is open to anyone who is employed in a role which supports midwives in the care of women, the newborn and their families (for example, your job title might be Maternity Support Worker, Maternity Care Assistant or you could be a Nursery Nurse working in Maternity).

Why join?

Support for you at work.

When you face difficulties at work you need support from someone who understands your job.

The RCM is the only trade union to give you first class employment relations advice and representation from workplace stewards and Regional/National Officers who are all qualified midwives trained in representation and negotiation - and we'll provide legal representation when you need it too.

You’ll have access to a growing network of RCM Union Learning Representatives (ULR)who assist RCM members in identifying their learning needs and accessing training opportunities.

Workplaces can be hazardous.  RCM membership includes personal accident insurance cover at work - and our Health and Safety Representatives are there to keep you safe.
